Posts and cash desks

A funded post is a permission to appoint. Fund two cashier posts at an institution and exactly two cashiers may be appointed there; a third one means funding a third post first. Funding a cashier post also creates its register, so a new cashier always has somewhere to stand.

Funding a post is what allows an appointment to be made against it. Two funded cashier posts at an institution means exactly two cashiers may be appointed there; a third requires funding another post first, and the same rule holds for every other position. A cashier post also carries a register: funding one creates the cash desk that goes with it, with its code and name assigned automatically, and reducing the figure retires a desk rather than deleting it.

Stating a figure for a position that already has one replaces it. The previous figure stays recoverable, so last year's establishment can still be read.

Add a cash desk

A desk belongs to one institution and never moves.
What the cashier sees on screen and on the closing sheet. The code is assigned automatically.
The default is the desk a cashier gets when her appointment names none. Only one desk can hold it, so setting this moves it.

The person who opened or closed a till cannot reconcile it. This independent review keeps a one-cashier institution operable without allowing self-reconciliation.
